Bidding on Hotel Rooms

Bidding on hotel rooms may get you a better deal providing you know a few tricks.  Below, we’ll take you through the process of bidding and how to make your bidding successful in getting you the best deals possible.

Priceline

Priceline has an Express Deals option that doesn’t require bidding to take advantage of huge saving of up to 60%. But bidding can be fun and allow great discounts, through Priceline’s “Name That Price” option.

What you do:

Select the “Name That Price” option and type in your destination and dates you need a hotel room. You will get a list of hotels in your destination and a star rating to select from. There are examples of recent bids to give you an idea of pricing. After you choose your destination and the star rating, you can place a bid. If your bid is accepted, you can save up to 60%. If your bid is rejected, you can bid again in 72 hours or significantly change your bid.

A Trick to Making another Bid without the 72 Hour Wait:

If changing your bid significantly is not something you want to do, you can use this trick to enter a re-bid immediately. You still have to change your bid because if it was rejected once, it will be rejected again.http://www.gadling.com/2009/02/16/budget-travel-becoming-a-master-of-priceline-hotel-deals/

However, the amount you change it doesn’t need to be as significant if you do the following:

1. If you want a four-star hotel\, and you have a bid that is rejected, find an area in town (as listed by Priceline) that doesn’t have a four-star hotel in it.

2. After adding the new area, you will qualify for a free re-bid.

3. This can be your false zone. Because there is no four-star hotel in this new location, your bid will be applied to the original hotel you were rejected on.

A Trick to Making a Bid that Counts

Bidding Traveler

Bidding Traveler shows Priceline bids and Hotwire wins that have been successful for the hotels that you are looking at. It is a great reference site to help place that winning bid!

rooms

Hotwire

It is a risk if you really want a certain hotel. The site is run by Expedia, so it is a trusted resource to use. The reason you can get some great deals is because the hotel you book is not revealed until after you book it. Booking cheaper hotel rates is easy to do! Once you know a few techniques, you’ll never go back to booking in a traditional way and paying full prices again!

How do I start?

Once you’ve determined your destination and the dates you need to book a hotel, you can get started. Great sites to start with are the sites that scan hundreds to thousands of other travel sites and look for the best deals possible for the time and destination of your trip.

Which one is the best one to begin with?

Hotels Combined  is a great site that searches thousands of travel sites to help you find savings of up to 80%! It is free to use. Each year, over 300 million people rely on it! It searches over 5 million hotel deals in over 120,000 destinations worldwide. It is also great for users that prefer a language other than English; the site is available in over 40 languages, and it supports 120 currencies!

Additionally, Hotels Combined offers a best price guarantee and will refund the difference if you do find a hotel room at a lower online rate. Students and teachers can benefit from rebates offered through this site, as well.

What other travel sites are good?

There are a host of great sites, some of which offer rewards and bundling options that add up to a lot more savings. If you are interested in bundling your flights, hotels and car rentals, Expedia  saves it’s users an average of $300 per booking. This is a very large site that includes hotels, flights, car rentals, cruises, and attractions. You have 24-hour support before, during, and after your trip, and you can find over 11 million reviews from actual guests talking about their experiences with the site. Expedia also has a hotel price guarantee, and, if you join their rewards program, that price guarantee is good until up to 24 hours before your stay. If you find a cheaper rate online within 24 hours of booking, the Expedia Best Price Guarantee will give you a $50 credit.

Collecting the rewards points through Expedia gets you great deals for more than just hotels, and, as you collect the rewards, you automatically move into their Elite Plus status that furthers your savings and benefits. Hotwire  is an operating company of Expedia that can get you great discounts by offering unpublished pricing to unsold rooms.

Things to Keep In Mind

Sometimes the savings are not worth it. Make sure you consider the additional costs that individual hotels may charge for parking, internet access, or other add-ons. If the additional costs are adding up to be more than the discounted price actually saves you, it may not be worth it. Happy travels!
